The Story of Chuck

Chuck was just an ordinary kid.

Wait! If that is so, then why am I narrating this story for you? I guess we will only know that in the end. But to reach the end we should have a beginning. Let's just keep the beginning the way it is.

Chuck was an ordinary kid. He was medium in stature; had thick dark-brown hair coupled with a skin-tone that resembled the sands on the shores of Cape Town. He was ordinary in every aspect except for his untapped potential: he was a genius at languages. Whatever language he attempted to learn, he could learn it in 3 months straight. But, this is not a story about his success in life but of the origination of his talent. It is the story of how he discovered this hidden talent.

Right from his initial schooldays, Chuck always liked his English class. Many thought that he did so vecause English was his native language which he already knew and needed no effort to study. Though that wasn't the reason for his particular liking, he eventually began to settle for this reason as many people began noting it. He always had an interest began losing significance when he was expected to give word-for-word answers. Eventually, his grades plummetted to a near-average student.

As his untapped talent began sinking into the abyss of his unconsciousness, he began facing a crisis. Though he had the capability to write a full-page essay in 10 minutes, he would skip his written assignments for which he was punished. This did not happen in all classes, but only in his English class at junior high. His talent was finally discovered by his teacher when he had entered a competitor. It was an essay competition that was made compulsory, his talent would have eventually died. The topic he chose was 'The Most Memorable Experience'. Taking the pen he began to write out his essay.

Time passed and the pages filled. But, when his teacher saw it, she knew he had the talent and the flair in languages. She decided to give him some encouragement by publishing this essay in the school magazine. It worked!!! Seeing that his essay was going to be published, Chuck got the boost to continue harnessing this talent. While English continued to remain his masterpiece he went on to learn many more languages from around the world.

There is an interesting thought that I have picked up from Chuck's story. You too may have sensed it. But, allow me to point it out to you explicitly:

We all possess a plethora of talents. Some shine out instantly and naturally while some need to be brought out in the limelight. Nevertheless, the point still stands out. Our talents are given to be used and developed. Unused talent is a waste of one's capability and potential. Utilize the talents that you are aware of an work towards discovering your hidden talents.
