The Beauty in Postcrossing

 It has been a little over a year since I began writing postcards and getting into the postcrossing community. Nonetheless, the experience I have had is truly remarkable. To send a message of assurance, positivity, and love all enveloped in a tiny paper the size of a diary is just fascinating. Amidst a world where violence, debauchery, and greed is propagated, it is always reassuring to know that there are also people out there who work on spreading positive vibes.

This is just a lot like the ripple effect that many people speak of since every postcard or letter sent is another addition of positive vibes being spread into the universe. This age-old practice of communication is still kept alive by many people around the world. It is an opportunity to voice out and move counter-culture to a world full of atrocities. For me, it is this age-old practice that
can spark a change to bring light into a world that is accustomed to the darkness

While there are some who try to rebel against these divisions we can all agree that we seek some order in life. Some of the ordering points towards an objective way of ordering there are others that are purely subjective. With Valentine’s Day just around the corner and the buzz around the new Sara Ali Khan-Kartik Aaryan starrer, Love Aaj Kal, I began pondering as to what is that one love that has been present yesterday, today and continues. While I have read and heard one too many talks on ‘Jesus the Perfect Valentine’, I believe the more important theme we could look at is Jesus’ never-ending love for us. I have experienced it at times when I have gone through dark phases in my life. To be honest, once you realize the immensity and continuity of this love, there will definitively be a radical change in your life. Theology is a process and one never comes to a finished state of theological insight. These are the opening statements of Derek Johnston’s book A Brief History of Theology . At the outset, Johnston says that this book provides a glimpse into what theology is all about. It introduces key ideas of the theologians of various areas and what were the questions that gripped them at their particular times. The book is meant to provide the foundations for the reader to think theologically. As one goes through the book, one comes across the thoughts of great theologians and thinkers like St. Augustine, John Wesley, Karl Rahner, St. Thomas Aquinas and John Calvin to name a few. I used to stay at Deoli when this happened. I was an orphan who lost my parents in an attack by some wild animals, and so I lived with my middle-aged aunty. We had acres of bamboo plantation so we decided to use those canes to make baskets as my aunt was a good weaver. But, then the question arose: Who would buy our hand-made baskets?   The Bollywood film ‘Dilwale Dulhaniye Le Jayega’ is known for its iconic scene of the hero on the train waiting for the bride to jump on to the train with him. The scene has been recreated many times to show one’s love for the other. One of the more recent imitations of this scene was in Rohit Shetty’s ‘Chennai Express’ though it was done in a more comic manner. This iconic romantic scene very well depicts God’s relation with us.
