Happiness
Robin Williams. Marilyn Monroe. Ernest Hemingway. Chester Bennington. These are names of great entertainers who ended their life because of depression. While they had the talent to ring happiness to others, they struggled to find happiness themselves. What is it that truly makes us happy? Is it the wealth we hoard? Is it the status we attain? On, is it the success we achieve by our own determination?
It is true that at times, these things bring us happiness. But is it lasting? Often we tend to place these peripheral things as our lasting happiness. However, we get easily tricked and end up into a bottomless pit. We do not realize that we are falling till we lose ourselves completely into these passing desires.
These things are indeed good but it is not what our hearts truly long for; it does not bring us lasting happiness. At times we think that being good, observing rules and laws is what brings us happiness. But, this does not fulfill the true purpose of our life. There is always an inner longing; a longing for a higher good. It is in this quest that we find happiness. A daily examination of conscience helps us to review our day and see how much we have gone on our quest.
review your past for it is your past that teaches you to forgive. Often times, we live in the past because we have failed to forgive. Our future gives us the goal we long for and our past teaches us how to 'let go'. But, our present is truly the gift. It helps us to look at our past with forgiveness, seek our future expectantly and live our present happiness. That is the secret to happiness.
